Recall data methodology
How ScanRecalls collects, checks, structures and updates official recall notices, and how product searches are matched.
From an official notice to a product record
- Collect: scheduled imports read configured official feeds, APIs, datasets and web pages. Source availability and publishing delays affect when a notice reaches us.
- Extract: automated adapters identify the product, source dates, recall reason, consumer instructions and available identifiers.
- Check: publication checks look for a usable identity, an allowed official source URL, recall facts and a valid publication date. They also reject detected source boilerplate and malformed identities.
- Publish and update: eligible records become public pages. We keep the original source link and distinguish an official publication or update date from the time ScanRecalls checked or processed the record.
These checks reduce extraction errors; they do not establish that every field has been manually verified. Report a suspected error through corrections.
How the recall checker matches
The checker compares your input with product and brand names, manufacturers and identifiers in eligible published records. It can restrict the search to a country. Complete identifier matches take priority over partial codes and product-name matches.
Valid UPC, EAN and GTIN codes can be compared in their equivalent GTIN form. A partial model, lot or serial range is shown as a possible match. Date and serial ranges require checking the original notice; the checker does not decide whether your value falls within every range.
Matching one identifier does not confirm that all conditions apply to your item. Compare the whole official notice, including product variant, package size, geography and any narrower lot or date restriction.
Dates and coverage
“Published” is the source publication date recorded for the notice. “Last updated” reflects an available official update. “Official source last checked” is the recorded retrieval/check time; it is not a promise that every notice from the agency is present.
The today index shows notices published or materially updated today. When none are available, it labels and shows recent records as a fallback. Browse current and recent notices or the source directory for more context.
