Include your device type, ScanRecalls version, country setting, and the steps that caused the issue. If a barcode is involved, include the digits printed below it. Do not send passwords, authentication codes, or other sensitive information.

01

Barcode scanning

ScanRecalls needs camera permission only while you use the scanner. If the camera does not open, enable camera access for ScanRecalls in your device settings and reopen the scanner.

  • Hold the retail barcode inside the frame in bright, even light.
  • Keep the camera steady and make sure the complete barcode is visible.
  • ScanRecalls supports common retail product codes such as UPC, EAN, and GTIN.
  • If the label is damaged or the scan fails, type the digits printed below the barcode.

The camera image and video feed are processed on your device for barcode recognition. ScanRecalls does not save or upload them.

02

Understanding recall results

A barcode is usually only the first identifier. The official notice may also limit a recall by lot, batch, model, serial number, date, package size, or country.

Confirmed

The available barcode and country information match, and the notice does not list a narrower identifier ScanRecalls needs to verify.

Possible

The product may match, but you must compare additional identifiers with the original notice.

No known match

No matching record was found in the checked data. This is not proof that a product is safe.

Always open the original government or manufacturer notice, compare every identifier on your product, and follow the official instructions. For an immediate safety concern, contact the manufacturer or the responsible authority in your country.

03

Monitoring and notifications

After scanning an eligible consumer or food product, you can monitor its barcode for future matching recalls. Your primary country is monitored by default; related international alerts are optional.

  • Enable notifications for ScanRecalls in your device settings.
  • Keep monitoring enabled on the product you want to watch.
  • Check that your primary country is correct in ScanRecalls settings.
  • Pause or delete a monitored product from its product page.

Notifications can be delayed or unavailable because of device settings, network conditions, source delays, or missing identifiers. Do not rely on ScanRecalls as your only source of safety information.

04

Account and data

ScanRecalls starts with an anonymous account so you can monitor products without creating a traditional password. If available, you may link Sign in with Apple or Google while keeping the same monitored products.

Delete a monitored product in the app to stop future monitoring for it. To permanently remove an account and its associated cloud data, follow the steps on the account deletion page.
